However, AI has introduced various cheating tools that enable dishonest behavior.lt;/pgt;lt;figure class="oh oi oj ok ol om oe of paragraph-image"gt;lt;div role="button" tabindex="0" class="on oo fi op bg oq"gt;lt;div class="oe of og"gt;lt;picturegt;lt;source "https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:640/format:webp/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 640w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:720/format:webp/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 720w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:750/format:webp/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 750w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:786/format:webp/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 786w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:828/format:webp/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 828w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1100/format:webp/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 1100w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/format:webp/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 1400w" sizes="(min-resolution: 4dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 50vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 4) and (max-width: 700px) 50vw, (min-resolution: 3dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 67vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 3) and (max-width: 700px) 65vw, (min-resolution: 2.5dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 80vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2.5) and (max-width: 700px) 80vw, (min-resolution: 2dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 100vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2) and (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" type="image/webp"gt;lt;source data-testid="og" "https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:640/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 640w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:720/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 720w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:750/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 750w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:786/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 786w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:828/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 828w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1100/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 1100w, https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/1*ExsW7eZCVVTXjikMkdTErw.jpeg 1400w" sizes="(min-resolution: 4dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 50vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 4) and (max-width: 700px) 50vw, (min-resolution: 3dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 67vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 3) and (max-width: 700px) 65vw, (min-resolution: 2.5dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 80vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2.5) and (max-width: 700px) 80vw, (min-resolution: 2dppx) and (max-width: 700px) 100vw, (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2) and (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px"gt;lt;/picturegt;lt;/divgt;lt;/divgt;lt;figcaption class="os fe gt oe of ot ou be b bf z dt"gt;Photo by lt;a class="af ov" href="https://unsplash.com/@raghavmodi?utm_content=creditCopyTextamp;amp;utm_medium=referralamp;amp;utm_source=unsplash" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank"gt;Raghav Modilt;/agt; on lt;a class="af ov" href="https://unsplash.com/photos/albert-einstein-licking-tongue-P1vXpgpL208?utm_content=creditCopyTextamp;amp;utm_medium=referralamp;amp;utm_source=unsplash" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank"gt;Unsplashlt;/agt;lt;/figcaptiongt;lt;/figuregt;lt;h2 id="f856" class="ow ox he be oy oz pa dx pb pc pd dz pe nr pf pg ph nv pi pj pk nz pl pm pn po bj"gt;"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,lt;brgt;Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Witlt;brgt;Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,lt;brgt;Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."lt;/h2gt;lt;p id="506b" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj pp nl nm nn pq np nq nr pr nt nu nv ps nx ny nz pt ob oc od gx bj"gt;? lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;Omar Khayyámlt;/stronggt;lt;/pgt;lt;p id="a619" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;In this case, the moving finger lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;lt;em class="pu"gt;does not write but points to a word or phrase,lt;/emgt;lt;/stronggt; then a mouse click, a save, and an insertion into a manuscript. It's all so easy. It takes seconds, and within an hour, anyone can have a research paper, a book, or a summary of anything, and claim that it is their own product.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="b04d" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;Amazon and other publishing platforms require that you attest to the fact that this material is your original product and not produced by AI. In fact, according to reports, hundreds of AI produced books have been removed from various publishing platforms.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="b1d5" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;I wonder how anyone could show they had written 50 books in a month or 300 books in one year. Does that seem reasonable to you? But computers don't question things like that. What do we call this? We could say it's lt;em class="pu"gt;a breach of ethicslt;/emgt; or lt;em class="pu"gt;plagiarism,lt;/emgt; as it is known and lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;found in many academic institutions lt;/stronggt;where one particular program a few decades ago took on the task of identifying plagiarized material in student papers.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="0979" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;Once, academic researchers who blindly engaged in unethical practices, merely manipulated graphics they used for professional journals. Is there nothing wrong with it? lt;a class="af ov" href="https://www.adobe.com/products/firefly.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwxLKxBhA7EiwAXO0R0IU8rhy2bWrbGBa7Vj0lP8KSpR4563Atyr6g6p6nDJtdGmyssnzAaxoCpvoQAvD_BwEamp;amp;sdid=JM4FW6VLamp;amp;mv=searchamp;amp;mv2=paidsearchamp;amp;ef_id=CjwKCAjwxLKxBhA7EiwAXO0R0IU8rhy2bWrbGBa7Vj0lP8KSpR4563Atyr6g6p6nDJtdGmyssnzAaxoCpvoQAvD_BwE:G:samp;amp;s_kwcid=AL!3085!3!677394754241!p!!g!!firefly adobe!19870733758!148140507998amp;amp;gad_source=1" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank"gt;Adobe Photoshop's Fireflylt;/agt; has an addition to their program that will allow you to lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;produce any image you wish lt;/stronggt;simply by giving it a detailed prompt for the image. Could this be used as a nefarious means of image production for research purposes?lt;/pgt;lt;p id="0862" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;I remember a famous researcher at a prestigious university who used a felt marker on his research animals and falsely claimed his work was successful. Incredibly, lt;em class="pu"gt;he blamed his research assistantlt;/emgt;, whose lt;em class="pu"gt;career was seriously damagedlt;/emgt;, but he went on to continue his fame. Another researcher, who achieved great note in his studies of eating disorders, similarly cheated in his manuscripts, but he was caught and paid the price.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="f40e" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;As an instructor in advanced studies, I recall, receiving an incredibly sophisticated paper on statistics from a student that I knew had a very poor academic record. Hard to believe, but this individual was a teacher at an elementary school who wanted a promotion and an increase in salary and needed to get an advanced degree.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="7af3" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;The method she chose was to go to a school that accepted almost anything students submitted and everyone got a degree. Is that what advanced education is supposed to be and would you want your children being taught or your school being administered by someone who engaged in that type of unethical practice?lt;/pgt;lt;p id="9294" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;Papermills that produce educational or school papers have existed for decades, and there are even lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;mills that can produce any diploma or certificationlt;/stronggt; you would like. These, too, need to be detected and eliminated. A colleague once told me about a man he knew who took his sister's nursing degree and had a special mill run it and turn it into an MD degree for him. They pollute the educational system.lt;/pgt;lt;figure class="oh oi oj ok ol om"gt;lt;div class="pv jp l fi"gt;lt;div class="pw px l"gt;lt;/divgt;lt;/divgt;lt;/figuregt;lt;p id="94f9" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;Today, it is easier than ever to plagiarize or wholly create via AI, and computers have facilitated this slip into unethical practices. As a result, there is a lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;growing industry that seeks out plagiarized materiallt;/stronggt; and detects any writing that has been produced in an "lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;unhumanlt;/stronggt;" manner. Once scanned, some programs will indicate on the bottom, "lt;em class="pu"gt;This is human textlt;/emgt;." Of course, it might not be human text but be produced by a program that can mimic it and elude detection.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="f8fa" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;Similarly, some programs claim to provide text that is undetectable as having been produced by AI. This may be the pot of gold currently, but it is sure not to last because lt;em class="pu"gt;AI programs can program themselveslt;/emgt; to detect these detectors.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="aefd" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;But there are ways to reveal the code of anything posted on the Internet. All of the popular lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;web browsers contain developer toolslt;/stronggt; within that page's code. Accessing these tools may reveal not only where the code originated but may also reveal informationlt;strong class="ni hf"gt; about who did the codinglt;/stronggt;. In this way, lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;you may find the original sourcelt;/stronggt;. Some coders actually lt;em class="pu"gt;leave their contact information within the codelt;/emgt; so that you may reach out to them for issues that you encounter.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="6d0f" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;Anyone, including students, who posts on the Internet should lt;strong class="ni hf"gt;be prepared for their content to be inspectedlt;/stronggt;. Of course, this is only an issue if you're using someone else's material.lt;/pgt;lt;p id="6eab" class="pw-post-body-paragraph ng nh he ni b nj nk nl nm nn no np nq nr ns nt nu nv nw nx ny nz oa ob oc od gx bj"gt;Are anti-detection programs fast approaching "lt;a class="af ov" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Dead_(1985_film)" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank"gt;The Day of the Deadlt;/agt;?" It may be so because AI is catching up so fast that it is making our heads spin. Plagiarists, beware; your day is coming.lt;/pgt;lt;/divgt;lt;/divgt;lt;/divgt;lt;/divgt;lt;/sectiongt;lt;/divgt;lt;/divgt;
